The existence of type 2 diabetes in the US has reached epidemic proportions. The
number of people in the US with a diagnosed type 2 diabetes is about 18 million.
That’s not the worst part because the numbers are increasing. Obesity is the primary
reason for the epidemic. The highest risk of incurring type 2 diabetes is obesity.
Some of the symptoms and signs that identify the possibility of type 2 diabetes
include the following:
1. Blurred Vision
One of the characteristics of type 2 diabetes is experiencing blurred vision.
The lenses in the eyes shrink and swell as the blood glucose levels fall and rise
to extreme levels. Blurry vision results when the eyes are not able to adjust as
rapidly as the movement of the lens.
2. Numbness in the Feet and Legs
Another sign of type 2 diabetes is the constant feeling of numbness in your
legs and feet. Unfortunately, the numbness could mean you’ve had diabetes for a
long period of time. When the nerves in your feet and legs have become damaged
from diabetes you will usually experience numbness. It typically takes at least
five years for the numbness to occur in a type 2 diabetic. Some statistics indicate
that a person has had diabetes for over 10 years by the time they recognize the
numbness in the lower extremities.
3. Extreme Fatigue
Extreme fatigue is a sign of type 2 diabetes. Fatigue occurs in type 2 diabetics
because glucose is not getting to your body’s cells. A diabetic will become
resistant to insulin actions even though your blood contains sufficient insulin.
Most people overlook this symptom because they tend to believe a normal part of
life is experiencing fatigue. If you are sleepy all the time and lack the energy
to perform your daily activities, you should get a doctor’s checkup for diabetes.
4. Genital Itching
Genital itching is another sign of potential type 2 diabetes. Yeast infections
often generated by diabetics. The genital area usually has a high level of glucose
and yeast infections are typically attracted to that type of body environment.
